BraywickHEATH Employment Skills Training (B.E.S.T.)

working in the greenhouse In recent years there has been an increased awareness of and interest in Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC). This has culminated in the Autism Act 2009, that requires every statutary health and social care authority in England to produce a strategy to meet the needs of those on the autistic spectrum in its locality.

The Braywick Employment Skill Training (B. E.S.T.) programme is based at Braywick HEATH Nurseries. It was set up in 2010 to make the Autism Act(2009) a reality for residents of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, who are on the autistic spectrum, by providing a developmental programme of skills training preparing participants for employment.

The B.E.S.T. programme seeks to raise the skills and experience of the participants by working in a commmercial setting at Braywick HEATH Nurseries

To prepare the candidates for work, an occupational therapist assesses their abilities and prepares individual development plans in collaboration with the nurseries staff to reflect as far as possible the realities of working in open employment.
